How You Can Measure Progress
The scale isn't the only way to measure your progress!
Weight loss can be great. But as far as progress goes, it doesn’t only revolve around the number on the scale. It’s important to notice the other ways your life has improved instead of getting hung up on one thing.
What other ways can you measure progress besides your weight?
- You’ve been sleeping better.
- Your mood is better and you feel happier.
- You have more energy each day.
- Your skin is clearing up.
- Your workouts feel easier.
- You have improved anxiety and you don’t feel as stressed.
There are many more, but these are just a few that can make huge differences in your life.
It’s very easy to get caught up in trying to lose or gain weight that you forget about the other factors that play a role in our health. Progress for you doesn’t have to necessarily be physical.
An example of this might be as simple as running one mile is easier today than it was several months ago. Even with the distance being the same, this is amazing progress! Progressing at something that you used to struggle with is huge.
While it’s nice to be able to physically measure your progress, like you can at the gym, progress can be measured in other forms as well.
Your mental health is a great example, and often gets overlooked.
Let’s say you’ve been grinding it out in the gym and with your nutrition but the scale hasn’t been moving as of late. While this has frustrated you, you have also noticed that your mood has improved and you aren’t as stressed as you normally feel.
This is remarkable progress! You could even argue that this progression is even more important than your weight loss efforts.
This is just a reminder that your health and fitness journey is all-encompassing and is not solely the number on the scale. This isn’t to say that weight loss shouldn’t be your number one goal. It still can be! But just remember the other areas of your life where you may be seeing progress and just not realize it.
What is another way that you know that YOU are making progress??
