Weights and Intensity

Weights and Intensity

I've talked about it before....how CrossFit chases (or used to) Intensity.  It was part of the harder, faster, heavier mentality that surrounded the sport when I first began.

Have you seen any post or videos from CrossFit HQ recently?
Some of them are set in a staged living room with people 60, 70, 80 years old doing things like sitting down to the couch and back up again.

Simple point really: your workouts should not have you so sore that you can not function normally.

There are a couple pieces to this puzzle. Picking the right weights and picking the right intensity.

Weights

If we (coaches) say you should be able to get 10 unbroken, why are you going heavier and barely getting 5?

Stop going heavier than you need!
(AND, I know plenty of you read that line and thought, "Wait, Ryan always tells me to go heavier! What gives?")

Those of you thinking that are just stronger than you know....yet!

Everyone else is risking injury to lift more than they should.
It has gotten better over the years but it still happens.

Lifting heavier will not get you fitter any faster. Actually, if you are not able to get the desired affect of the workout, it is actually slowing your progress.
SOOOOO, if we advise to be able to get 10 in a row....set yourself up to get 10 in a row!!!

Intensity

How do I put this lightly?
Some of you are no spring chickens anymore!!!! Why are you trying to beat the person half your age? While throwing all good form right out the window?!

Others of you are the spring chickens and it's obvious that form
